Some photos taken in our workshop

A country saddler from early Victorian times could very easily take over where we have left off.

Some of the tools we use were probably from his workshop anyway

Cutting the leather fob shape out of a shoulder of leather.

Branding the back of the fob.

Scribing the stitching line with a pair of dividers.

Marking the positions of the stitches with a pricking wheel.

Punching out the hole for the hinged enamel strap using a bag punch.

Attaching the hinged enamel to the leather fob.

The hand stitching begins using two needles simultaneously. The leatherwork is held securely in an antique wooden sewing horse. No-one ever found a better way.

Smoothing the cut leather edge of the fob after stitching.

Bevelling the edge of the leather fob with an edging iron.

First burnish of the leather edge.

Split ring fitted and leatherwork ready for final edge burnish and polish.
